30TH MATRICULATION CEREMONY OF ABIA STATE POLYTECHNIC, ABA

Rector, Engr. Dr. Christopher Kalu Okoro Vows TO Transform Abia Poly Into World Class Institution

The Rector of Abia State Polytechnic, Aba, Engr. Dr. Christopher Kalu Okoro has vowed that his administration would transform the institution to a world class standard.

Dr. Okoro stated this while delivering his speech at the 30th matriculation ceremony of new students in Aba, Abia State on Friday.

The Rector while congratulating the students said the event is a unique one for him as a person because it is the first, he is performing as the new leader of the institution.

He thanked the governor, His Excellency, Dr. Alex Chioma Otti  OFR, for the opportunity to serve in the capacity of a Rector and promised to give his best.

He said: “Today’s event is significant for me particularly because it is the first major ceremonial function I am performing as Rector of this Institution. This being the reason I hold the roughly three thousand matriculating Students of this batch in very high esteem; because they are, so to speak, the first set I am ‘birthing’ as Chief Executive Officer of Abia State Polytechnic, Aba.

“This event presents me with another auspicious platform to express my deep gratitude to the Visitor of this Institution, His Excellency, Dr. Alex Chioma Otti, OFR Executive Governor of Abia State for the faith, trust, and confidence he reposed on me by my appointment as Rector.

“This action of His Excellency will always challenge me to give my best to the recalibration and re-engineering of Abia State Polytechnic, Aba. I am, of course, further motivated and energized by His Excellency’s incomparable commitment to the repositioning, reformation, and strategic development of this Institution into a world-class Centre of Excellence in Technological Education.

“Your Excellency, Sir, as instruments in the realization of your dream Abia State Polytechnic, Aba and Abia State at large. We pledge to always do our best to keep the fire of our little corners aglow.”

He urged the new students to give their best to studies and shun vices that will derail them from achieving their academic goals.

ABIA POLY RECTOR VISITS ABA POWER LIMITED

In a move aimed at resolving persistent power outages at the Abia State Polytechnic, Aba, the Rector, Engr. Dr. Christopher Kalu Okoro, met with the CEO of Aba Power Limited, Prof. Barth Nnaji, on April 4th, 2024.

Dr. Okoro, accompanied by Engr. Jude Nwogu (Director, Works and Services Division) and Engr. Otagburuagu R.O. (Director, Center for Consultancy Services), visited the Aba Power headquarters in Osisioma, Aba.

The visit was to address the Institution’s ongoing struggles with electricity blackouts.

Following the meeting, Professor Nnaji assured Dr. Okoro and his team that the issue would be addressed.

Abiapoly to lead in research and human capital development.

The Abia State polytechnic in the last six months has been on the rise to it’s ambitious stride in providing quality education, infrastructure development and above all it’s venture into technical research and human capital development.

This is as a result of Governor Otti’s intervention to bring the institution to it’s glory and render quality and technical education to the admiration of all and sundry.

In interaction with newsmen, the Acting Rector of the institution, Engineer Chidinma Martha Ndukwe reveals that, there has been a drastic lift in staff morale, and a total restoration of a sense of occupational belonging, with the regularity in the payment of salaries, in a manner not experienced in many years, and the attendant assurance of job security.

The Acting Rector again said that for the first time in the history of the polytechnic, graduates of the School of Engineering have now begun to be mobilized for the National Youth Service Corps.

She however outlined the other tangible indices of the burgeoning reputation that AbiaPoly enjoys in the new dispensation includes gallant displays by our students in intellectual contexts of different categories.

She also commends Governor Alex Otti who has been squarely demonstrative of his awareness of the role an institution of AbiaPoly’s character and mandate can play in driving the much-anticipated science and technology revolution for both state and country, and has expressed his intention in every possible way to reposition it for greater operational effectiveness and service delivery.

Also in her reaction, the Academic Staff Union of AbiaPoly, represented by the Publicity Secretary, Engr Joe O. Irukwu, listed the following achievements within the period of Engr. Mrs Chidinma Ndukwe, the Ag. Rector’s administration includes; the emergence of Mr Isdore Ihuoma, a student of Electrical and Electronic Engineering Technology, (EEET), as first position at project exhibition competition organized by Committee of Deans of Engineering of Polytechnics and Colleges of Technology held in Enugu, July 2023.

Mr Ekeke Nzubechukwu, from same department, EEET, was the over all Best on Electrical Installation, an annual National Competition organized by Construction Artisan Award, (CAC) October, 2023.

Abia State Polytechnic, Aba was the winner of 2023 NIPOSGA competition.

Others are, a student of Food Science and Technology took the First Position during a competition organized by NAFSTS at MOUAU, Nov, 2023.
And within this period also, Miss Udeogu Chinaza, from Biology/Microbiology, came first in a quiz competition hosted by Okwuluora, in Aba.

As union leaders, we appreciate the works of our governor, Dr. Alex Chioma Otti (MFR) in appointing our Rector as the first female Rector and urge him not to relent in his campaign promises.

Meanwhile the institution organised a National Conference where most distinguished Nigerian researchers and intellectuals, led by Professor Maduebibisi Ofo Iwe, Vice Chancellor of Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike, delivered the Keynote address.

This meeting hosted about 250 paper presentations by about 320 scholars and researchers who did scholarly and marvelously well in the chosen topics.

According to Engineer Ndukwe, the successful convening of this colossal carnival of ideas, Abia State Polytechnic, Aba is now poised to lead the explosive conversation on national recovery and transformation from the research and intellectual standpoint.

Abia Poly students win the 4th Edition of Construction Artisans Awards (CAA).

Construction Artisans Awards (CAA) competition is a yearly competition for All the Construction Artisans all over Nigeria. It’s a time when the Artisans gather to showcase / demonstrate their practical skills in their respective Trades.
That of this year is the 4th Edition.
It is my pleasure to bring to us that our two sons of Abia origin represented the South East in the competition.
They are:

  1. Paul Amadi – Plumbing ( the son of Mrs Virginia Amadi that used to work at our Rector’s office.
  2. Ekeke Nzubechi – Electrical Installation ( a graduate of Electrical/ Electronics Dept of Abiapoly) .

Finally, Ekeke Nzubechi emerged the best Artisan in Electrical Installation and the overall Best Artisan in Nigeria for this year’s competition while Paul Amadi emerged the best plumber of the year. Both of them are currently being celebrated in Abuja by all the Construction Professionals and companies in Nigeria and across the world.
They are coming back with the Trophy.

The Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria, COREN, in collaboration with Committee of Deans of Polytechnics, organised a Competition for all Engineering students in the South East

Polytechnics ( Federal and state) sent representatives for the competition.

Guess what? Abia Poly came First
